The Free City of Niamh is an independent Free City in Cleyran Deira.
The most recent one I'm working on is for a game I hope to play soon with my friend. The nexus point is the City of Niamh, which has ties to two different planes and acts as a politically important Free City within the territory of Cleyran Deira. ( The Cleyrans are the ratfolk of my setting, the name is from Cleyra in FFIX, but in universe it comes from a transliteration of "clair" since the ratfolk speak French. ) Deira used to be a High Elf kingdom, but the Cleyrans have conquered most of it as of the present of my setting, with roughly a fourth of the territory still in Elven hands. Niamh is a Wood Elf city, though. Wood Elves in my setting are usually nomadic and they rebuild ruins for fun and fulfillment in their long lives and Niamh was built as a trade post near the ruins of an ancient city called Dolu which predates even the HIgh Elves' kingdom. It's named after the elven woman who originally built the trade post even though it's expanded to encompass the rebuilt Dolu, the nearby entrance to the Twilight Realm, and certain lands within the latter, including Niamh's Garden. Which is a botanical preserve in the Twilight Realm, which is the only place in two planes where the Nevebloom grows. ( A wildflower named after Niamh as well, which was accidentally hybridized from a snow lily and a flower from the feywild then adapted over centuries to the unique sunlight cycles in that specific place on that specific plane. ) Niamh also has an entrance to the feywild, but it's shut and fiercely guarded to keep out fey incursions which are almost always a bad thing.
